No missed runs this week so overall mileage for the week was pretty much as expected.
Tuesday’s session went really well with the first 20min interval coming in at 5:13m/m and then gradually getting faster with the final 2min interval at 4:36m/m. Felt stronger than I have done for a while.(See link for for full details)
Easy running through to Good Friday when I had a shorter sandwich session planned for lunch time. Was looking forward to it after Tuesdays strong run so I was quite shocked when I got half way through the first 2mile interval and found myself struggling to maintain 5m/m pace. Struggled on and started the first 2min interval but then gave up shortly after as I was really starting to feel “off”. Jogged home and immediately consumed lots of carbs and fluids and then went to sleep for 4 hours. By around 8pm I was feeling pretty good so I thought I’d go out for a 2nd attempt at the session. Still wasn’t feeling 100% but considerably better than lunch time so got the session done. The 2min intervals were a good 5sec/mile slower than I was planning but considering the lunch time effort I was reasonably happy to just get the session done! ( See link above for full details)
Nice easy run with “Padams” off the RW sub-3 thread on Saturday and then a steady 18 miler (apart from a few quicker miles in the middle
) with Jacek this morning rounded off the final proper weeks training.
Next week will be around 70 miles with a small club session on Tuesday evening and a parkrun on Saturday.
In other news this week, getting closer to race weight just dipping under 11 stone for the first time in a while today and I’ve also been experimenting with beetroot juice. The good news is that my stomach seems to be able to handle it ( if a little queazy to start with) but it really does taste BAD ……… and I’ve no idea if it actually does any good to my endurance capabilities
Anyway , doesn’t seem to do any harm so might as well – just in case!
Good luck with the taper everyone – I hope I cope with it slightly better this year

Steve,
Regarding the beetroot juice, try taking little and often rather than trying to drink a full glass. I drink it daily in the 2 weeks leading up to a big race. It’s hard to know what works and what doesn’t but I’ve read nothing but positive stuff about the beetroot juice and like I said if it’s good enough for Roots Manuva then it’s good enough for me:)
All the best for London.
John
Cheers John – Good luck with your race on the same day – i reckon you might take a bit longer than me
