So a fortnight of “two halves” ………
Very pleased with my progression and sessions for the first week with a couple of good club sessions, a 15:44 parkrun and a strong finishing Purbeck run (thanks to a fast final mile from Jacek!) No “spectacular speed” on any of these runs (see links above for details) but in general I felt I was progressing nicely from my 33 10k shape the week before!
At this point I was thinking that another week of good training under my belt and I might have a chance at sub 32 at the D-Day 10k considering how my fitness was improving.
I had the day off on the Bank Holiday Monday and by the time I came to doing Tuesdays club session (6 x3min) everything had changed and my body was not willing to play ball. Couldn’t even maintain 5m/m pace in the 3min intervals and felt quite ill by the end of the session. Didn’t get much better for the rest of the week which led to me binning Thursdays session and just doing a steady run instead.
Was in 2 minds whether to bother racing the 10k today as I was still not feeling 100% but had already decided I needed to go to Portsmouth and Southampton to spend the £325 worth of vouchers I have accumulated for Sweatshop and Alexander Sports over the last year so went for the day trip anyway!
I guess I should be grateful I managed to beat my Poole 10k time with a 32:54 but even so it was a pretty poor showing with a considerably slower 2nd 5k, see below for details. I know that my training is getting back on track though and when I get rid of whatever it is that is currently making me feel less than 100% I think I should start to see the benefits in my racing.
Current race plans for the next 3 weekends are:
16th – Parkrun (Guests for the weekend so can’t get away with much more)
24th – Lordshill 10k
30th – BAL 3000m (Bristol)
